Call for Nominations for SSO Board of Directors

The Schizophrenia Society of Ontario (SSO) is accepting nominations for current positions on its Board of Directors. Members of the Board provide strategic governance to SSO as well as SSO’s new social enterprise, Integrated Advancements in Mental Health (IAM).

We are seeking candidates who bring professional and volunteer experience, in particular but not limited to, prior experience on non-profit Boards; fundraising, research, and business and social enterprise development. Board members take on the responsibility of helping SSO achieve its mission, mandate and revenue goals.

To be eligible, you must be 18 years of age or older and a member of SSO, or be prepared to become a member of the organization.

SSO is a dynamic organization that, for over 35 years, has improved the lives of individuals and families across Ontario living with schizophrenia and psychosis by building supportive communities through programs, advocating for system change and by researching the factors that directly affect mental illness.

This year SSO has launched several new initiatives, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) training for family members and providing mental health support on university campuses. The largest of our new initiatives is the formation of Integrated Advancements in Mental Health (IAM) which will focus on the incubation and acceleration of solutions to problems and issues experienced by people living with chronic mental illness. With a primary focus on product development and implementation, IAM is poised to change the way mental health is addressed across Canada.

Participation

In addition to attending four (4) Board meetings each year and the Annual General Meeting (held in Toronto), Board members are required to support and participate in various events that bring SSO into the community, including educational and signature fundraising events.

Nomination forms are available at here or by calling our office at 1-800-449-6367. Applications must be accompanied by a summary of qualifications and experience, along with a short expression of interest statement.

SSO is committed to a Board which reflects Ontario’s diverse population. The Board strongly encourages persons living with schizophrenia and family members, along with First Nations peoples, bilingual speakers and members of other communities and orientations to apply.
