Peace of Minds Walk moves to October

The Schizophrenia Society of Ontario (SSO) has always been an organization that seeks to improve and isn't afraid of change. In order for our organization to continue to grow, evolve and continue to be successful, we are committed to innovating and making changes to benefit the people we serve.

In this spirit, we are moving the 2017 Peace of Minds Walk to October.

Here are a few reasons why we are making this change:

Mental Illness Awareness Week 2017 is taking place from October 1 -7, 2017. Moving the Peace of Minds Walk to coincide with this week will allow for more visibility and increased participation which will result in greater awareness about schizophrenia, an illness that often goes ignored in conversations about mental illness.

We would like the walk to grow! Over the past 23 years, the Peace of Minds Walk has raised over $1 million towards programs and services that support families and individuals living with schizophrenia. We hope to raise that amount with increased attendance at the walk and increased fundraising.

Together we can unite Ontario and rally around families and individuals living with schizophrenia and psychosis. We hope to see you in Toronto (location TBA) or in Oakville at Coronation Park on October 1, 2017

We would love to know what you think! If you would like to share your thoughts/ideas/suggestions on how we can make this walk the best, most successful one yet, please contact Jackie Plessl at 416-553-1476 or by email at jplessl@gmail.com; or Marina Sue-Ping toll-free at 1-800-449-6367 or via email at MSue-Ping@schizophrenia.on.ca.
