Call for Nominations for SSO's Board of Directors

The Schizophrenia Society of Ontario (SSO) is accepting nominations/applications for current positions on its Board of Directors. Members of the Board provide strategic governance to SSO.

About the Schizophrenia Society of Ontario

Our mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of people, families and communities affected by schizophrenia and psychotic illnesses.  We are Ontario’s largest charitable organization dedicated specifically to this work. Filling a critical gap, we provide direct support and education, raise awareness and build communities, support and engage in research, develop and further innovation in mental health and advocate for system and policy changes.


We are seeking individuals who are passionate about our cause and want to make a difference through governance of the organization.

We are seeking candidates who bring professional and volunteer experience. To be eligible, you must:
  • Be over 18 years of age
  • Be an individual new to this cause or have a friend/family member living with schizophrenia or an individual living with schizophrenia or psychosis
Have the following core skills:
  • Governance experience
  • Financial literacy
  • Inter-personal communication skills
  • Visionary and strategic thinking
  • Commitment to the mission of SSO
In addition to the above, we are seeking individuals who may have one or more of the following skills and experience:
  • Law
  • Fundraising
  • Social engagement
  • Public relations
  • Risk management
  • Technology
  • Entrepreneurship/business development
Board Member responsibilities include:
  • Attending four board meetings per year
  • Prepare in advance for board meetings with materials provided
  • Each board member is asked to engage in one board task force/committee (in person or teleconference)
  • Participate in annual board planning and the annual general meeting
  • Support revenue acquisition and engage in fundraising activities
